BIO-CORE: Bio-inspired Self-organising Mechanisms Core
نویسندگان
چکیده
This paper discusses the notion of “core bio-inspired services” low-level services providing basic bio-inspired mechanisms, such as evaporation, aggregation or spreading shared by higher-level services or applications. Design patterns descriptions of self-organising mechanisms, such as gossip, morphogenesis, or foraging, show that these higherlevel mechanisms are composed of basic bio-inspired mechanisms (e.g. digital pheromone is composed of spreading, aggregation and evaporation). In order to ease design and implementation of self-organising applications (or high-level services), by supporting reuse of code and algorithms, this paper proposes BIO-CORE, an execution model that provides these low-level services at the heart of any middleware or infrastructure supporting such applications, and provides them as “core” built-in services around which all other services are built.

Self-Organising Maps in Computer Security
Some argue that biologically inspired algorithms are the future of solving difficult problems in computer science. Others strongly believe that the future lies in the exploration of mathematical foundations of problems at hand. The field of computer security tends to accept the latter view as a more appropriate approach due to its more workable validation and verification possibilities. The lac...
متن کاملBio-inspired Computing Machines with Self-repair Mechanisms
Developmental biology requires three principles of organization characteristic of living organisms: multicellular architecture, cellular division, and cellular differentiation. Implemented in silicon according to these principles, new computing machines become able to grow, to self-replicate, and to self-repair. The introduction of a new algorithm for cellular division, the so-called Tom Thumb ...
متن کاملBIOSOARM: a bio-inspired self-organising architecture for manufacturing cyber-physical shopfloors
Biological collective systems have been an important source of inspiration for the design of production systems, due to their intrinsic characteristics. In this sense, several high level engineering design principles have been distilled and proposed on a wide number of reference system architectures for production systems. However, the application of bio-inspired concepts is often lost due to d...
متن کاملRobotic Organisms - Artificial Homeostatic Hormone System and Virtual Embryogenesis as Examples for Adaptive Reaction-Diffusion Controllers
Generating artificial organisms from robotic modules (cells) is a challenging and fascinating task. In this article, we discuss the most important challenges that such systems pose to the engineer and how these challenges are met by introducing bio-inspired mechanisms into the core functionality of such robotic systems. We develop a list of key functionalities that allow such a system to overco...
متن کاملA Pattern-Based Architectural Style for Self-Organizing Software Systems
We present an architectural style for selforganizing software systems, which leverages a catalog of design patterns for self-organization. The catalog, which represent our prior work, defines a number of bio-inspired selforganization mechanism as design patterns, and shows how more abstract and complex forms of self-organization can be composed from simpler, lower-level mechanisms. We now discu...
